Find the values of x and y with the answers in simplest radical form, I will medal and profile pic is the diagram of the questions, thanks:)

OpenStudy (tacotime):

The picture is unclear. Is x an angle? Is there another side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X on the other side, 30 degrees where the arrow is pointing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Help please!!

OpenStudy (tacotime):

So I think because 12 is the adjacent side and x is on the opposite side cos(30) = x and the same follows for y; sin (30) = y.

Answer choices: 6,6sqrt3, 12,12sqrt3, 4sqrt3,8sqrt3, and 6sqrt3, 8sqrt3

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Ok I guess they want you to use special triangles. Give me a sec to write this out...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay:)

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Ok so because you know this is a right angle and that one angle is a 30 you know this must be a 30-60-90 triangle. The side between 30 and the right angle is xsqrt(3), the angle between 60 and the right angle is x and the hypotenuse is 2x. We know that the side between the 30 and the 90 is 12 so 12 = xsqrt(3). Thus x = 12/sqrt(3). Then y = 2x = 24/sqrt(3). I'm sorry that I don't know how to simplify these answers, but I can tell you if you find the decimal answers (from your calculator) x ~ 6 and y ~ 13 so 4sqrt(3),8sqrt(3) is the answer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I understand!:) also a 30-60-90 triangle has hypotenuse of 16ft, what is the area of the triangle?

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Well you find the sides in the same manner then multiply base * height (not hypotenuse) then divide by 2 so \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2} (8*8\sqrt{3})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer choices: 32ft^2, 64ft^2, 32sqrt3^2, 64sqrt3^2

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Right so you can just multiply 1/2*8*8 to get 32 so 32sqrt(3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got that too!:)

OpenStudy (tacotime):

good!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will you be available tommrow for some more help some couple of questions?

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Yeah. I'm on here at random times.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like what time for example? Mornings ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could I message you to ask you the questions?

OpenStudy (tacotime):

I can see if I'll be on in the morning, but if not I'll be on in the evening. Don't message me the questions because the format of this website makes messages hard to read imo. I can give you my throw away email if you want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes if you can please the email thanks!:)

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Yes, I will.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! Bye!:)

OpenStudy (tacotime):

Your welcome. :)

Hi I sent you an email
