OpenStudy (morgan_home.study):

The number 650,000 written in scientific notation would be?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (the_rebel_outlaw):

it would be 6.5 x 10^5 = 650,000

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

please explain what the rules are for writing it @The_rebel_outlaw

OpenStudy (the_rebel_outlaw):

because 10^5 is 100000 and you would multiply that by 65 which is 650,000

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

what made you choose 10^5 and not 10^6 or 10^4?

OpenStudy (the_rebel_outlaw):

I had this problem for an exam and it helped with this question

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Still, don't you think someone trying to learn this kind of notation deserves some sort of explanation?
