@Michele_Laino could you help me solve for x?
Are you solving for the area or something?
No I'm supposed to solve for the missing side. I know how to do that but I can't figure out what x is.
well what's the equation for adding up the sides?
I'm not sure. I know that a^2 + b^2 = c^2 can be used to find the base of the triangle. I'm just not sure if I'm supposed to solve for x before that.
No. You use that equation to solve for x.
ask a qualified helper. I am not sure sorry.
oh thanks Zelda
\[20^2 = (x^2) + (5x)^2 => 400 = x^2 + 25x^2 => 400 = 26x^2\]
Okay so 400 = 26x^2 and then I just find the square root of 26x^2? And then divide 400 by what I get?
You have to divide both sides by 26, then take square roots.
Oh okay. So 400 / 26 = 26x^2 / 26 15.4 = x^2
@Zelda would I then find the square root of 15.4 and x^2?
@texaschic101 do you think that's what I should do?
Yes.
