Please help me, I will medal! Information to read before the question: http://prntscr.com/agwaih Question: http://prntscr.com/agwau9

MsBrains (ms-brains):

@FortyTheRapper

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

They want an equation, so it'll be something like \[y = mx+b\] Interesting thing is, all the numbers you need are there

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, so how would we do that?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

In Y = Mx + B form \[M = Slope\] \[B = Y-intercept\] In this situation M = Cost Per Mile because we're going X miles B = The starting cost, because they have to pay something to use the transportation

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Okay, soo I don't know if this helps, but I have 5 questions about this, and one of them says the concert is 10 miles away from your house.. we just have to multiply 0.50 *10, to get the first part, right?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yep, because you made x = 10

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Remember the +B part, B being the boarding cost

MsBrains (ms-brains):

0.50 *10 = 5 $5.00 + 6.00 <-- Like that?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Correct, that would be the total after 10 miles

MsBrains (ms-brains):

10 miles = $5.00 + 6.00 So << I'd just write something like this as the answer?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

It depends on what they wanted If they wanted the equation, you would do y = .05(10) + 6

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, awesome! Thanks so much! <3 Do you mind helping me on a few more questions similar to this about the taxi cab, and concert thing?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yeah, let's see them

MsBrains (ms-brains):

http://prntscr.com/agwi6d

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

This one uses the same equation, we just need to replace the numbers from the first equation with the Taxi-Awesomeness one

MsBrains (ms-brains):

y= 0.75 (10) +2 ^^ Is this how this one would look?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Correct, if X = 10 If we don't know what x was, we would just put x instead of 10

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright awesome, there is like two more http://prntscr.com/agwibn

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

For this one, we take both equations we made and make x = 10, since we have to travel 10 miles \[y=(0.5)(10) + 6\] \[y=(0.75)(10)+2\] I would want the cheaper one, so I would solve each of those and see which number is smaller.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, Give me 1 sec

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Cabs-r-us: y = .05(10) + 6 y=6.5 Taxi-Awesomeness: y= 0.75 (10) +2 y 9.5 Should I just so this math, and say I'd pick Cabs-r-us because it costs less?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Exactly!

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Thank you so much! I would have never understood this without you. http://prntscr.com/agwih0

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

You're welcome! And this one is the same, you just plug in 20 instead of 10

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, last one http://prntscr.com/agwjgy

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Actually, lets go back to the 10 mile question I think the calculations may be wrong Let's do (.5) times (10) first, and then add 6 and see what that gets

MsBrains (ms-brains):

This is what I wrote down, y = .5(10) + 6. y =6.5 if we do y = .5(10) + 6. y=11

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Right it is 11. I was just confused about the 6.5 part, because Taxi-Awesomeness is cheaper in that situation, not Cabs-R-Us

MsBrains (ms-brains):

So I should change my reasoning in to picking taxi-awesomeness?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yes, because (.75)(10) = 7.5 7.5 + 2 = 9.5 9.5 is less than 11

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, and in the part after that, choose cabs-r-us, right?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yep, with the similar mathematical reasonings

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Alright, and for the last one, I don't know if I have to show math proof, but I think I should just write "It would be cheapest for me, and her if we both got separate cabs from different cab companies"

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Yes, If it is allowed for both of you to get different cabs and meet up at the concert, then that would be the best choice

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awesome. Thanks so much! You seriously rock <3

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Anytime =] Always like working with you

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Thank you! <3
