Anne has an innate belief in the goodness of humanity, even when she lives under the worst of situations. She is positive, upbeat, and optimistic because she seems to have a strong faith in some kind of God who will ultimately bring the world back to normal. This is hard for the reader to understand because most people would have descended into negativity and negative thinking if they were in her situation
