OpenStudy (gottennis121):

I am doing a Endothermic and Exothermic lab test. I am looking for ways to conduct this experiment. Examples? It must answer the following question: How does the absorption and release of energy affect temperature change during a chemical reaction? Thanks!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

It's easy to do an acid-base reaction and use an indicator to monitor the rate - at least relative between different temperatures. To quantify the change in colour with respect to time you can use a spectrophotometer if you have access to one, or just use your eyesight. Perform the same reaction at at least two different temperatures (e.g. room temp and cooled with ice (use a thermometer to record the actual temp)).

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

I don't quite understand, could you please further explain? I'm trying to create something involving natural gas, or something that will heat up another. Do you happen to have any suggestions for me? Thanks! :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

acid-base reactions are exothermic, so that will heat up the system (solutions when mixed)...but you wanna do a combustion reaction involving natural gas? Its a much more complex experimental set up if you want to use gases.. are you doing this experiment at home or in a lab?

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

I am doing it outside my house. I have a firefighter in the house, so I'm not too worried about using gas. Lol. According to a science site, starting a fire is a special type of chemical reaction. I think I'll do that. Thanks for being so patient with me! :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

okay, cool. seems like you got it figured out :) good luck!
