The man who is credited with saving the settlement at Jamestown is: John Cabot John Smith Sir William Dale
Captain John Smith One day, Captain John Smith was captured by the Indians. A legend says that Pocahontas, the chief's daughter, saved his life. In 1609, the Jamestown colony almost failed again. John Smith had to return to England when he was badly injured in a gunpowder explosion. http://www.watertown.k12.ma.us/cunniff/americanhistorycentral/04encountersintheamericas/Success_at_Jam.html
Captain John Smith became leader of the Jamestown Colony. He saved the colony by making a rule that anyone who did not work did not eat. This made the colonists plant food, and build shelters and fences to protect themselves from attack. Captain John Smith maintained a peace with the nearby Algonquian Indians.
