The hypotenuse is always longest side, and cannot be shorter than one of the others. Therefeore the 2 answers less than 12 cannot be correct. You can also see that the longest side in ANY triangle cannot be longer than the sum of the 2 shorter sides (BECAUSE THE ENDS WOULD NOT MEET). So that only leaves one possible answer out of your choices.
