Make a short list of the various approaches you could use. Notice that you have two right triangles here, and that two side lengths are given. could you use Trig? Or the Pythagorean Theorem?

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

Is the answer 28.8

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

Just need a comfirmation

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'd be happy to give you a confirmation if only you'd show how y ou obtained 28.8.

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

Well first off I used the Pythagorean Theorem to get what side AB was. I came to the conclusion that it is 13. After this, I used the Theorem of Altitude which is BC^2= AC*CD. Then, I did 12^2=5x and divided by 5 and came to the answer of 28.8

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Nice work. thanks for sharing it. I, too, obtained 28.8 for the length of CD.
