Method 1: For each answer choice, plot the three points on the same xy grid. IF there is a way to draw a vertical line through more than one point, then it is NOT a funciton Method 2: Look at the x coordinates of each point. If you see any repeated x values, but different y values, then it is NOT a function Ex: (8,3), (2, 5), (8,9). Notice how x = 8 repeats twice but the y coordinates are different. This will plot 2 points where a vertical line will go through them both at the same time.
Rule: A relation is a function if and only if each x value produces EXACTLY ONE y value. If you plug in an x value that spits out more than one y value, then it's not a function.
