Find the area of the shaded region? (With attachment)
umm what is 12.4 yd?
I mean what is it representing here? It is a unit of length... so what's it doing there O.o
I don't know. That's all the question says is "Find the area of the shaded region.Round your answer to the nearest tenth".
I think it is a unit of length
ohuh ... well then we have some issues :D
12.4 is the radius, it has to be since it is not close enough to the edge to be the circumference and there's nothing else it can be. So all of the sectors are broken up evenly into thirds, so area for a sector is \[A=p \pi r^2\] where p stands for how much of the circle the sector takes up, in this case it is a third of the circle and r (radius) is 12.4 so \[A=(\frac{ 1 }{ 3 })(\pi)(12.4^2)\]
Simplify that and you will get your answer Make sure you have your units of yards squared
Just for future reference to find the part of a circle you would find the degree or radian measure of the sector then divide by 360 for degrees or 2(pi)r for radians
