(a) "mean and median," is, unfortunately, not at all correct. The median is part of the 5-number summary; the mean doesn't show at all in a box and whisker plot.
Have you heard of the "5-number summary" that is used to draw the plot? The 5 numbers, in the order in which they appear, are: minimum, Q1, median, Q2, and maximum.
