Find the distance between points (1, -4) and (1, 0) -4 4 0 3

Mehek (mehek14):

do you know the distance formula?

hartnn (hartnn):

Distance between points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is \(\huge d=\sqrt{(x_1-x_2)^2+(y_1-y_2)^2}\) does this help ??

OpenStudy (mathmale):

True. Great formula. But notice that x does not change from the first point to the second. Thus, we can find the distance between the 2 points without using the distance formula.

hartnn (hartnn):

when one co-ordinate is same, the distance is just the difference between other co-ordinate

hartnn (hartnn):

0-(-4)= ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

hartnn (hartnn):

So my answer would be 4?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes
