OpenStudy (16jbrown):

Simplify the expression in exponential notation. 2*a*b*a*b

OpenStudy (knov):

it's 8ab

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for each like term you encounter in multiplication you increase the exponent by 1... does that help ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@16jbrown

OpenStudy (vhtran):

\[a \times a=a ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (vhtran):

that is because there is 2 of them. a*a is the same as a^2

OpenStudy (vhtran):

same thing with b

OpenStudy (vhtran):

so you should get \[2a ^{2}b ^{2}\]
