Hey i need help on this if anyone is wanting to help When the expression -2x^2+5x-3-(-7-9x+5x^2) is simplified, the coefficient on the x-term is: F. 5 G. 9 H. 11 J. 14 Plz help i have been trying to work it out but i feel like i'm doing something wrong so plz help?

can you tell me your approach ?

OpenStudy (marcelie):

you can distribute the negative

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[-2x^2+5x-3-(-7-9x+5x^2)\]that \(-\) in front of the ( ) expression is the same as seeing \[-2x^2+5x-3-1(-7-9x+5x^2)\] If we just concentrate on that, what is \[-1(-7-9x+5x^2)\]after you apply the distributive property?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i put that wrong my bad i had to re-read lol

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

For what it is worth, I find this particular "pattern" to be very troublesome for many students — very easy to forget to change the signs of each of the terms inside the parentheses!
