A cell phone carrier offers two plans for text messaging. Plan A costs $20 per month plus $0.05 per text. Plan B costs $10 per month plus $0.10 per text. For how many text messages per month are the plans the same cost?

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

Let's have x be the amount of text messages for both plans. We know that 20 + 0.05x will be the total bill for the month and the other plan will be 10 + 0.10x total bill for the month. We want to know how many text messages is need for these two bills be the same for the month. So what we do is set these two equations equal. 20 + 0.05x = 10 + 0.10x Solve for x and you will have your answer to how many text messages are need to have these month bills to be equal.
