.8(x – 5) = 60

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

Use the distributive property first. Distribute the 0.8 to the x and the -5. It becomes 0.8x -40 = 60 Then add 40 to both sides which cancels out the -40. 0.8x = 100 Finally divide by 0.8 on both sides which cancels out the 0.8 and gets x by itself.
