OpenStudy (kat_here2learn):

I'll give a medal to anyone who helps What is the correct order for performing mathematical operations in simplifying expressions?

OpenStudy (er.mohd.amir):

use "bodmas" rule that is bracket then of then divide then multiply then addition then subtraction .

OpenStudy (kat_here2learn):

what does the o stand for? @er.mohd.amir

Directrix (directrix):

Look at this item about the order of operations. @kat_here2learn

Directrix (directrix):

>>use "bodmas" rule I have not heard of this.

OpenStudy (kat_here2learn):

: Brackets (parts of a calculation inside brackets always come first). Orders (numbers involving powers or square roots). Division. Multiplication.

Directrix (directrix):

Multiplication and Division are on the same tier of the hierarchy. Addition and Subtraction are on the same tier of the hierarchy. If you are clear on the matter, I don't want to muddy the waters. :)

Directrix (directrix):

I just helped someone with this problem and thought of the standard you posted here. @kat_here2learn ----- Using the GCF you found in Part B, rewrite 72 + 81 as two factors. One factor is the GCF and the other is the sum of two numbers that do not have a common factor.
