Fan and Medal I'm in FLVS and I need help

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

A cone has a diameter of 8 centimeters and a height that is 4 times the diameter. Using 3.14 for pi, which of the following can be used to calculate the volume of the cone? one over three(3.14)(32cm)2(4cm) one over three(3.14)(32cm)2(8cm) one over three(3.14)(4cm)2(32cm) one over three(3.14)(8cm)2(32cm)

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Do you know the equation for the volume for a cone?

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

no

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

wait yea

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

Volume of a cone: V=1 over 3(πr2)(h)

OpenStudy (luckyness):

Yep

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Yes Correct. So looking at this problem, The diameter is 8, so radius will be 4. The height is 4 times the diameter so 32 cm. Can you answer it from here?

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

think so

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Alright, choose your answer and I'll tell you if you're right or wrong :)

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

k

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

I believe it's a but I want to say b

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Well let's do this. V = 1/3(pi r)^2(h). If we fill in the info that we know, we get: V = 1/3 (pi (4))^2(32). See which one is correct now?

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

the second

OpenStudy (ltrout):

No not quite. The second has 32 as the radius and 8 as the height. A and B aren't correct.

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

oh okay would you times 4 and 32 since the 4 is the height

OpenStudy (ltrout):

The height is 4*Diameter so 4 * 8 = 32 for the height.

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

okay either way it's going to equal 32 so I want to say it's C but I feel like its wrong

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Actually, C is correct :)

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

really awesome lucky guess thx for the help
