OpenStudy (welshfella):

v(t) = 3(t-3)(t-1) right?

OpenStudy (marcelie):

yes

OpenStudy (welshfella):

find the critical points by solving 3(t - 3)(t - 1) = 0

OpenStudy (welshfella):

then you can find the values of t when v(t) > 0

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what are the 2 values of t when v(t) = 0?

OpenStudy (marcelie):

|dw:1459280689151:dw|

OpenStudy (welshfella):

t = 3 and t = 1 for v(t) = 0

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Now one way to do this is to find values of v(t) when t < 1 , 2<t < 3, and t > 3

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sorry thats 1 < t < 3

OpenStudy (marcelie):

brb..

OpenStudy (welshfella):

- find if v(t) is > 0 or less than 0. eg when t = -2 v(t) = 3(-2-3)(-2-1) which is positive so t<1 for positive direction

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now check the other 2 intervals and you'll get the answer gotta go right now.
