Should volunteering be required to graduate high school? Volunteering should be required to graduate high school. A lot of teenagers have the time and energy on their hands so it would make since for them to take some time out of their schedule and give to others. Teenagers like to hang out with each other so this would be a good chance for a couple of friends to get together and volunteer. It could help build leadership and give teens a chance to help out other people in a huge way. It makes the teenagers have more creativity or ideas on what he/she want to do with their life.

Volunteering gives a sense of responsibility because they have to be there at a certain time and they can’t act like a child and play around. For example, if they volunteer at the zoo and they don’t show up on time, they are letting everyone else down. Or maybe you do show up on time but you feed the lions the giraffes food and the giraffe the lions food it would get the animals sick. It’s like a team so you are only as strong as your weakest player, so if you’re not holding up and not being responsible then your team is going to lose and not complete their goal.

Volunteering might help you find out what job you want to get or what classes to take or what subject to study. Maybe you think you want to be a marine biologist then you volunteer and find out that it isn’t for you, so you try somewhere else like a zoo and become a zoologist so you help them care for the animals and you find out you really like reptiles so you take a class and learn more about reptiles and you become the best reptilian specialist in your state.

However, some high school students should have a way they can get out of not volunteering say they have a job and still do school and don’t have time to volunteer because they work a lot. We should make a way so if they prove they have a job and have been there for more than 2 months it should count as volunteering. My friend is in high school and he works from 6 am to 8am. He goes to school and gets out at 3 pm then goes back to work at 4 pm to get off again at 9pm all because his mom and dad split up and his mom needs help with the bills. Being in high school has a lot of responsibilities so volunteering may not be an option.

What do you think should students have to have volunteer or should they get away with none? There are probably many reasons other than help finding a job, or giving a sense of responsibility to volunteering. There is also more than just don’t have the time to volunteer for being a reason on why they shouldn’t have to volunteer. To conclude this essay, I will ask you a simple question, what do you think?
