OpenStudy (hannahc234):

Will fan and medal. Describe what happens to a cell placed in a liquid with the same concentration as the cell Describe what happens to a cell placed in a liquid with different concentrations as the cell

OpenStudy (fatir5):

If concentration is same in the surrounding as cell does have, then there will be no movement of water molecules, in or out of the cell. Such environment is called Isotonic. If conc of solute is more outside the cell, then according to osmosis water should move toward area with more solute conc, so cell would shrink. Such environment is called Hypertonic. Reverse is true for hypotonic. Less solute conc in the environment then in cell, so water moves into the cell. Cell becomes turgid.
