The human eye's job is to focus light onto the retina. The retina is a thin layer of neural cells that line the back of the eye. These are part of the central nervous system. The cornea is used to focus this light onto the retina. So we talked about the retina but what is the retina? The retina is a nerve layer that lines the back of the eye. The retina is what sense the light and creates the impulses sent through the optic nerve into the brain. The retina has rods and cone cells that light into neuron signals.
The visual cortex is what interprets the signals into images. Then it will interpret the image and determine meaning and context of the images.
