Perfect Square Trinomials-Help Please Rhett decides to build a square room for his movie and music collection. If the area of the room is 9x2 − 6x + 1 square feet, what is the length of one side of the room? (3x + 1) feet (9x − 1) feet (3x − 1) feet (9x + 1) feet

@mathmale

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm what's a perfect square trinomial anyway?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

did you mean like \(\begin{array}{cccccllllll} {\color{brown}{ a}}^2& + &2{\color{brown}{ a}}{\color{blue}{ b}}&+&{\color{blue}{ b}}^2\\ \downarrow && &&\downarrow \\ {\color{brown}{ a}}&& &&{\color{blue}{ b}}\\ &\to &({\color{brown}{ a}} + {\color{blue}{ b}})^2&\leftarrow \end{array}\qquad % perfect square trinomial, negative middle term \begin{array}{cccccllllll} {\color{brown}{ a}}^2& - &2{\color{brown}{ a}}{\color{blue}{ b}}&+&{\color{blue}{ b}}^2\\ \downarrow && &&\downarrow \\ {\color{brown}{ a}}&& &&{\color{blue}{ b}}\\ &\to &({\color{brown}{ a}} - {\color{blue}{ b}})^2&\leftarrow \end{array}\) ?

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

a trinomial that indicates the area of a square i think

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

im not that sure this is my first lesson on this

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... you'd want to cover that first I'd think, before the eexercise

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

yah i actually skipped right to the test instead of reading the material first

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

i thought too much of myself

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

and once you enter the test you can get out until you finish or else you get a 0

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, if the test is any good, then 0 will be the right grade, no? I mean, the test is supposed to "test", it's meant to let the student know what needs work on :)

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

LOL

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

well thanks anyway man

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

think about it this way you go skydiving, you forgot you parachute the plane jump is meant to test you if you can land well so you jump what would be the proper outcome? so... tis better to notice the parachute is missing, before jumping though

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

wWHAT KIND OF I DIOT WOULD FORGET HIS PARACHUTE!!!!

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

he mustve been one silly guy

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

anyhow, once you cover the perfect trinomial \(\begin{array}{cccccllllll} {\color{brown}{ a}}^2& - &2{\color{brown}{ a}}{\color{blue}{ b}}&+&{\color{blue}{ b}}^2\\ \downarrow && &&\downarrow \\ {\color{brown}{ a}}&& &&{\color{blue}{ b}}\\ &\to &({\color{brown}{ a}} - {\color{blue}{ b}})^2&\leftarrow \end{array} \\ \quad \\ hint\qquad 9x^2-6x+1\implies 3^2x^2-6x+1^2\implies ({\color{brown}{ 3x}})^2-6x+{\color{blue}{ 1}}^2\)

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

thankz

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yw

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

i think ive figured it out because the 9x2 − 6x + 1 expression is simplified to (3x−1)(3x−1) and area is widthxlegnth so (3x−1) would be my answer???

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

@jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

@Bobo-i-bo

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

@surjithayer

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct.

OpenStudy (fantageplayer):

thanks
