help with this equation?

OpenStudy (jtug6):

Sure! Ask away.

OpenStudy (study_buddy99):

Sorry my computer was being super slow and so I had to get the app

OpenStudy (jtug6):

No problem. So basically you need to factor the numerator and denominator.

OpenStudy (jtug6):

do you know how to factor the quadratic in the numerator?

OpenStudy (study_buddy99):

R+2 r-2

OpenStudy (jtug6):

Well not quite. The question you should ask yourself when dealing with a quadratic and factoring is, "What can i multiply to give me the last term and when added give me the middle one?"

OpenStudy (jtug6):

So, what times what gives you 6 and yet when added gives you a -5?

OpenStudy (study_buddy99):

So I've gotten here

OpenStudy (study_buddy99):

I. Sorry for slow responses all my technology doesn't like to work at my brother's house

OpenStudy (jtug6):

Yep, that works. Unfortunately the answers they want have you cancel out something from the numerator and denominator. So aside -6 and 1 you could use -3 and -2 right? Since -3 * -2 = 6 and added = -5

OpenStudy (study_buddy99):

I see so the answer would be a?

OpenStudy (jtug6):

yep!
