well you need to add up the 4 fractions then divide by 4.
OpenStudy (welshfella):
to add fractions you need to make all the denominators the same value
here the highest denominator is 8
so you need to convert 1/4 and 1/2 to something / 8.
do you know how to do that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4/8
OpenStudy (welshfella):
thats 1/2 yes
what about the 1/4?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that into 2/8

OpenStudy (welshfella):
just multiply top and bottom by 2
OpenStudy (welshfella):
correct so now its 2/8 + 3/8 + 4/8 + 7/8
OpenStudy (welshfella):
just add up the numerators
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[2/8+3/8+4/8+7/8=16/8=2\]
OpenStudy (welshfella):
correct so now to find the mean you divide by the number of fractions which is 4
