Write an indirect proof to show that a rectangle has congruent diagonals. Be sure to create and name the appropriate geometric figures.
Miracrown (miracrown):
Can you give this a shot?
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
I have a really hard time with my written proofs, and when I ask for help my teacher always says she doesn't understand how to help me.
OpenStudy (greatlife44):
wow, that's a horrible teacher
Miracrown (miracrown):
What always helps is a diagram :)

Miracrown (miracrown):
What is the shape we are working with for this proof?
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
Ok, so when writing an indirect proof, you always assume the correct answer is wrong so i would say:
"Assume that a rectangle does not have congruent diagonals"
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
We're working with a rectangle
Miracrown (miracrown):
No, that's good!!!
Miracrown (miracrown):
Let's get that diagram

Nice diagram! Please label the vertices :)

Miracrown (miracrown):
Well labeled :^)
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
thank you
Miracrown (miracrown):
With the assumption that the diagonals are not congruent, how do we proceed from there?
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
I honestly have no clue
Miracrown (miracrown):
What do we know about the opposite sides of rectangles?

OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
They're congruent and parallel due to the definition of a rectangle
Miracrown (miracrown):
Good and what do we know about the angles?
OpenStudy (mynameisnemo):
They are also congruent and 90 degrees due to the definition of a rectangle.
Miracrown (miracrown):
Exactly :)
Miracrown (miracrown):
With 90 degree angle, what is ABD? and DCA?

Congruent angles, but there's a specific name and justification for them that I need and idk what it is
