OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

I try googling up what an ARITHMETIC MEAN is but i still don't get it, can someone explain it to me in their own words or show me an example?

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

It is the average of the set of data. If the data is 14, 21, 19, 31, and 20, then you would add them all together and divide by how many data points went into it. 14 + 21 + 19 + 31 + 20 = 105 There are 5 data values, so you would divide 105 by 5. \[\frac{ 105 }{ 5 } = 21\] The arithmetic mean would be 21.

OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

oh but i was given a problem and it looks nothing like that

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

What is the problem?

OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

8 - a, 8, 8+a

OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

options i was given a.4 b.8 c.16 d.a + 4 e. 2a

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

I believe this is the same principle. Add up the terms you were given, and then divide by 3. It should compute.

OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

oh so its 8

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

Yes

OpenStudy (ibrafacts):

thank you
