Help with cereal box:((

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

@Kikuo

OpenStudy (kikuo):

What are you asking?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Could you help me figure out how to do this:/

OpenStudy (mrcoolguy):

@ScarlettFarra2000

OpenStudy (mrcoolguy):

@Ms-Brains

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Okay the first step is to fine the surface area of a rectangle I'm thinking

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

And each side is 0.05

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

it wouldn't be of the regular sized box?

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Yes sorry got messes up

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

How do I find that of a normal one?

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Width* height * 2 sides find the area of ends Length * width * 2 ends

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Like how do I know the dimensions of a regular cereal box?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

I don't have one to measure or anything

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

I'm not sure there because one your attachment it says to CREATE a new box, bag, or carton so I'm not sure

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

@ILovePuppiesLol

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

im so bad with math :( sowwy

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

@sbuck98 is there some picture we could look at?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

no:( that's all the information I was given

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Okay lets see what we can do what do you know so far?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

nothing:((((

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

volume is length times width times height

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

That's what I thought but what is the volume? Wouldn't be 0.05 because that's all it gives you

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Alright @sbuck98 it's okay I think its the problem that's got me all confused

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

no it says find the cheapest way to make a box at 5 cents per inch of cardboard

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

im so confused:(

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

You're not alone on that

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

idk how I'm suppose to do this, my teacher will not help me.

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Well, what I'm confuse about is why give you 0.05? Because Width times the height would be 0.05 * 0.05 =0.0025

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Then 0.0025+0.0025 =0.005 it'd be like taking a step back

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

we some how have to figure out the dimensions and volume of cereal in a regular cereal box, then create a new cereal box shape that holds the same volume of cereal as a regular box does with it costing as little as possible using cardboard that's 5cents per inch.

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

But, how is the issue.

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Okay any ideas?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

no

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

What about you @MrCoolGuy do you have anything?

OpenStudy (mrcoolguy):

nope

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

okay then thanks

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Here's my problem we have to make each side 5 cents but how do that? would you do 5*5=25/5=5?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

We have to some how figure out the volume of cereal a regular box holds.. then find the cheapest way to make a new shaped box that can hold the same volume of cereal

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Do you have a cereal box at home? I don't

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

yes

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

@Ms-Brains can you please help us

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Can you get the cereal box? then we can figure out how to find the volume of cereal inside of it

MsBrains (ms-brains):

I'm super sorry guys! I'm sorta busy, gimme a moment to look this question over, but I don't think I'll be much help.

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

sorry my brothers took off with it and its okay @Ms-Brains

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

How about I draw it would that work?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

No:( we need the exact dimensions right off the box

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

okay let me see if my brother will give it back

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

We need the length, width, and height of the box so I can calculate the volume

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Okay so I got it back but when you say you need to calculate the length, width, height will I have to measure the box?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Yes, I need you to get the length, width, and height of the box if it doesn't say it on there

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

okay give me a moment

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Did you get 6.4 wide, and 11.6 for height? if so, the length and the height would be the same right?

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Okay I got something different it might be because of my box tho

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

I looked it up on the internet, what did you get?

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

\[13\frac{ 1 }{ 4 } height \] \[9\frac{ 3 }{ 4} width \] 3 length

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

do you have a normal sized cereal box? or a family sized? what kind?

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

giant size box is what it says

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Okay, that's why you got something different, we'll use what I found since it's for the standard size one.

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

It'd probably be easy too since it's not fractions

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Could I ask you how you found the length? because, length and heights not the same so I need to figure out the length some how

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

well I asked my brother and he told me the length would be how wide it is or maybe I didn't listen right i have no clue

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

3.9!

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

width * height would A=74.24

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

its l*w*h

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

True forgot L

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

289.53

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

so now I'm not sure about the next step

OpenStudy (scarlettfarra2000):

Um sorry gtg maybe i can help later?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

yes.
