Alright, it's been a while but I finally managed to find some time to record another one for the album. Let me know what you think. I need to get some real feedback. https://soundcloud.com/tanner-nelson-193373466/keep-moving-forward
This is actually very Well Vocals! Keep up your hard work. :D
Thank you!
It was about probably fifteen seconds in before I started to smile when hearing this. :) Its super groovy, its motivational and actually sounds like the title. Keep Moving Forward! Now for a bit of criticism. The only thing I noticed was the harmonies on your vocals. I'd definitely say they were fairly spot on, but at the same time slightly off. What I mean by this is that the words aren't correctly overlapping each other in just a few spots. The first initial harmony nearest the chorus part. Its tricky to say where, but if you listen closely you may know what I'm talking about. If not, I can re-listen another time and point out maybe the lyrics or something. (in a rush right now) But all in all, I find this inspirational. I understand the meaning, it makes one want to move to it, and for me to top it off.....I think its a breath of fresh air actually to hear a banjo being used in this modern day of pop and metal. I wish more people did what you did. Keep at it! You're a different kind. :)
Thanks for that @Atsie I really appreciate it. I do know the part you're talking about. I haven't fixed it yet because I intend to get someone else to sing the harmony. Preferably some female vocals. Also, what do you think of the harmonica. Listening to it now, it's kind of irritating. I'm interested to see what other people think.
I hadn't thought of female vocals, but trying to imagine it seems quite interesting. As long as it is in concordance with yours and matches enough, that would be actually unique! :) AS to the harmonica, I definitely think it belongs. But what is seemingly irritating about it is the fact that its tinny. You know what I mean? Like it seems almost far away from the song itself and like it was recorded in a place without enough room in the room. (super weird sounding :P) Put like this, the room sounds small. Like the harmonica can't breath properly almost. If there is a way for you to record the harmonica differently, then it would wrap the whole thing up superbly. Like in a different atmosphere, where there is space, but still close enough to your mic. I'm sure its a bit of a tip top balance between getting to close and getting to far away as the harmonica tends to have a shrilly edge effect in a way. But that is what I think most of the problem is. @tanner23456
Yeah, I'll see what I can do. It's hard when I have to rely on other people to get the sound I want. That's mainly why I do everything myself. And yeah, I know what you mean about the harmonica. It actually probably sounded better as it was originally recorded but I did some effects to it because I felt like it was dominating too much. I think I'll re record it (since there's definitely a timing issue as well) and play with the sound effects more.
it's catchy and nice :)
it's catchy and nice :)
Thank you!
honestly that wasnt that good. you sound like the goat or sheep whatever it was in the movie hoodwinked
@aulyanchuk thanks for your feedback. In the future I'd prefer you stick to constructive criticism with intelligent remarks and ways to improve rather than jerky insults, but either way I still appreciate your feedback. :)
Dude! I love this. I dig this! Harmonica sounds great! Banjo sounds legit! Nice work :)
Thanks man! Appreciate it.
@tanner23456 I totally understand. Being the one on one by yourself kind of team is least from easy, and then having others who aren't of the same mindset musically (in a way) isn't easy either. But I really hope you can work something out. I'm sincerely curious to see the final result. :) Interesting. I hadn't really guessed that there were effects on it. Maybe thats the very thing that would be taking away from it and giving it a bit of a nerve racking sound. Its weird, because I feel like it really belongs and yet it needs a little help. Well, when you have it re-recorded, please put it up whenever you have the chance. I'd love to hear it. :)
Thanks, I'll try to get to it this weekend.
eww you do sould like a sheep! this is kinda tacky uh this is horrible just like @aulyanchuks said!
@123AB456C Why don't you take a few minutes to explain why its "eww"? A person cannot improve with insults, but rather with honest and thorough criticism.
@123AB456C I have to agree with @Atsie If your musical taste doesn't allow for this style of music, that's one thing (though I wish you'd keep it to yourself if that's the case) but if you truly believe there are errors in what's been written and recorded please be more specific as to what that is. Above all, please just be respectful. I don't insult the things that you put a lot of work into and I expect the same courtesy.
@123AB456C See this is what I am talking about you and @aulyanchuk both owe @tanner23456 an apology. If your gonna critique someone be mature about it. I'm not sure what your guy's problem is but you both are very negative towards others and I hope that changes for the best of both of you.
I personally love your music @tanner23456 Especially Choose Carefully :) that one is my favorite. Keep up with the good work!
Thanks @Adrianna.Gongora I appreciate it.
@tanner23456 No Problem :) I think others should be more respectful but keep up the great work! c:
Yeah, I agree, but I expected to have to take a little flak when I put myself and music out there. I'm just glad my music is reaching somebody. That definitely outweighs any amount of disrespectful criticism I could ever get. Thanks for your support!
can we PLEASE get OVER THIS ! its OLD! JUST PLEASE shutup about it YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO CAUSE MORE DRAMA!!
tanner i would tell you sorry but for some reason i cant! i dont know what i is about you but i just dont like you! and im sorry if that sounds mean but i just dont. please don talk to me anymore .ok . im saying this as nice as i can i just want to avoid you ok.
Ok, cool. No worries. All is forgiven. Have a great life! I wish you all the best on your journey of avoiding people you don't like. :) @123AB456C
Pretty sure @aulyanchuk made the 123 account, for attention maybe? Regardless, his/her opinion is invalid, because this song is by no means "horrible," not even by a stretch of the word. I like it a lot, although I did like your other songs better. I understand this is not the finished product, and I'm glad for that because I think there's a lot more you could do with this. You expressed irritation at the harmonica, and I have to say I agree. Not only because it sounds tinny, like @Atsie stated, but because it sounds somewhat rushed and amateurish I guess? Like, each harmonica statement sounds slightly different, and the timing is slightly off in some places, which lends a messy feel to the instrumental, and it sounds a bit ill-placed towards the end of the song. The banjo sounds great, but everything should line up with the banjo, which doesn't consistently happen throughout the song. I like the harmony a lot, and I think female vocals would come into play nicely, although you should be picky with the female vocals you choose, only because I don't think just any girl's voice would go with your voice, nor would just any girl's voice enhance the mood and feel of the song. So just be cautious when you go to look for that element to add to your song. Otherwise, the lyrics are great, the music is very upbeat, your voice sounds great. This is all coming from a relative beginner's perspective, so I mean I don't know how legitimate my feedback is, but I say good job (:
i made the account im a girl! and my name is alexandria! can u stop talking about this topic its my opinion what i think about the song
@kelsey.benton00 that was awesome! thanks for that. I completely agree with everything you said. I think everyone's just been too nice to tell me all of that. I may just scrap the harmonica all together. What do you think would be a good replacement? I agree about finding the female vocals. Would you consider recording yourself singing this? If not, that's cool. I just wanna get a feel for what kind of vocals would be good.
On another person's music, I might be nicer and yunno, not less honest, but less honest :p But I figured you'd appreciate the brutality, haha. I don't think scrapping the harmonica entirely would be a bad idea, but if you were to decide to keep it, then focus on a softer sound, and try to make the sound more focused, while steering away from like, harmonica overkill if you know what I mean. For example, the intro in your song "Choose Carefully" is beautiful and the sound would go splendidly with this song. I think maybe another problem would be the actual melody of it. It sounds like it'd be really hard to keep up with, which would obviously result in the rushed, messy feel of it. So maybe you could keep the harmonica, but try a simpler, but just as effective melody, you know? If you decide to rid of the harmonica entirely, then I'm not sure what else could come in and still sound compatible with the banjo. My first thought was electric guitar, but I'm not so sure how that would sound. Then I thought maybe piano keyboard, as there are a lot of things you could do with that, a lot of different sound effects, such as pipe organs, or really anything. Those are just some ideas, do what you will with them, but I think you should at least try to figure out a way to make the harmonica work before you scrap it. As for the harmony, I wouldn't mind recording myself singing the song, although I'm not sure how long it will be before I can actually get back to you with the recording, so you'll have to be kind of flexible. Would you mind posting the lyrics of the song, either on here or in a comment on soundcloud, whatever's easiest. And would you like me to sing the melody or the harmony?
You write essays like I do! This is precisely the reason I fanned ya ^.^ @kelsey.benton00 Also, your critique is a breath of fresh air and even gave me new knowledge on Tanners song that I may have not noticed before. Good job!!
Thanks @Atsie I appreciate that (:
Your welcome! :) @kelsey.benton00
Thank you very much. I really appreciate the suggestions I'll definitely be using them when I re record this. (Which will hopefully be today.) And yeah, I think it would be cool if you could try the harmony part when you get sometime. If it sounds good with my song I could put it on my album. I'm planning on releasing it on May 7 so it would need to be done before then, but it's totally up to you. Here's the lyrics: I've been calling your name softly, But you won't answer me, Or so it seems. Help me figure out this picture Of what my life Is meant to be I've come so far. I've stumbled, I've fallen, But I kept on calling your name. And it's strange That life keeps on going, But I feel the same. Musical Chorus All the chances I've missed With Doors unopened, I wish That I could go back in time to try again. But that's not the way works you see one shot is the way it's supposed to be Yeah, what's the point if it's all thrown away at the end? I will stand proud The things I've done, the battles won And just to think that I'm not done. Though, I still know When life gets hard I'm not alone Yeah, There is a power beyond my own. Musical Chorus
Alright I've edited it. I'm gonna close this post and reopen it with the edited song.
