The trail starts at R(−3, 2) and goes to S(2, 2) and continues to T(2, −5). The total length of the walking trail is ____ units.

OpenStudy (vsvampires309):

If you want it to be easier, take a grid paper and divide it into the four quadrants. Then, number the Y and X axis. You should have point R(-3, 2) 3 spaces left of the origin and 2 spaces up. Point S(2, 2) should be 2 spaces to the right of the origin and then 2 spaces up. Point T(2, -5) Should be 2 spaces to the right of the origin and then 5 spaces down. Now, you'll want to count the spaces between point R and point S. That will give you 5 spaces. Next, you will count the spaces between point S and point T. That will give you 7 spaces. Then you will add 5 and 7, giving you 12 spaces. So the length of the trail is 12 units.
