Please help me! I will fan and medal =D

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

What is the factored form of x^2 - 196

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

What is the factored form of 49x^2-56x+16?

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

Or at least tell me what I could do to solve them please. =D

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what is the square root of 196?

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

14

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what you have here is the difference of 2 squares x^2 and 196 are perfect squares

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

Oh

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ok the general form is x^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b) so plug in a = x and b = 14 and you have it.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

that general form is worth committing to memory.

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

(x+14)(x−14)

OpenStudy (xkayleex):

Thanks can you help me with the second one please? =D

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Ok this one is a perfect square note that 49x^2 and + 16 are both perfect squares but this is not a difference can you figure it out /

OpenStudy (welshfella):

both factors are the saME.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

- BUT on expansion they produce a middle term + 56x.
