OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

Using the image above, how would you describe the following coordinate? (4, 6, -5)

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

OpenStudy (dulljackel09):

Miracrown is already here my job is done

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

Miracrown is not even helping! Too busy chatting with buddies!

OpenStudy (dulljackel09):

Then summon the crown

Miracrown (miracrown):

LOL. Hello. I was AFK. Are you supposed to answer by plotting the point? Or by giving directions like up, right, back?

Miracrown (miracrown):

I can help you with either :)

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

@Miracrown That is the point... I dont really know what the teacher is asking for? It just asks me how would you describe the following coordinate? which is (4, 6, -5)

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

by looking at the graph I attached

Miracrown (miracrown):

Correct, I was going to walk you through this in three steps. We need to describe where the point is along the x-axis, along the y-axis and along the z-axis in order to completely describe where the point is located.

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

@DullJackel09 LOL xD The crown has arrived (thumbs up ;)

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

@Miracrown All right, go ahead.

Miracrown (miracrown):

So along the x-axis we want to be able to say the point is ___ units left/right. Would our point be to the left or to the right on the x-axis?

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

I think four units and to the right on the x axis??

Miracrown (miracrown):

We are working with the point (4,6,-5). The x-coordinate is 4. When we look at the x-axis we see negative values to the left and positive values to the right. So our point is 4 units to the right. You're right! :)

Miracrown (miracrown):

What is the y-coordinate?

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

6

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yep!

Miracrown (miracrown):

So how would you describe where the point is along the y-axis?

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

It looks like it is on the top part of the graph, so left??? i dont know..

Miracrown (miracrown):

The y-axis is going up and down.

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

oh okay, then up.

Miracrown (miracrown):

So would it be 6 units up or 6 units down?

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

6 units up

Miracrown (miracrown):

Correct! The positive numbers are going up and the negative numbers are going down.

Miracrown (miracrown):

Last part... what is the z-coordinate?

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

it is -5

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yes! Now the z-axis is going forward and backward. Which direction would our point go?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Backwards, right? Since its negative 5. So now you can put all three parts together to describe where the point would be located.

Miracrown (miracrown):

Remember to describe where the point is, you describe a direction for each coordinate.

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

yeah it is backwards

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

Sorry, plo

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

So, what is the answer to the question?

Miracrown (miracrown):

You tell me

Miracrown (miracrown):

Put all three parts together to describe where the point would be located.

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

4 units to the right on the x axis, 6 units up on the y axis, and 5 units backwards on the z axis. Is this the answer the teacher was looking for?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yes, I think so. So the point is 4 units to the right, 6 units up, and 5 units back. :^)

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

That is it?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yes m8

Miracrown (miracrown):

Good luck!

OpenStudy (goldandpinkiscool):

Wow, that was so easy!!! xD Thanks Miracrown

Miracrown (miracrown):

Welcome, welcome
