will fan and medal, thank you♥ Find the function rule: X: -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 Y: 9, 4, -1, -6, -11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Looks like a foreign language to me, sorry.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

multiply the x values by -5, this gives 10 , 5, 0, -5, -10

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now compare these with the y values -5x: 10 5 0 -5 -10 y: 9 4 -1 -6 -11 can you see a relation between the 2 lists

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ There we go, someone that understands the foreign language.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what do you need to do to get the y values from the '-5x' values? 10 goes to 9 5 goes to 4 0 goes to -1 ???

OpenStudy (welshfella):

10 - what = 9? 5 - what = 4?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what do you need to subtract from 10 to get 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (welshfella):

right so our function rule is that we first multiply the x values by -5 then we subtract 1 in symbols that is y = -5x - 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (welshfella):

good
