OpenStudy (mythorius):

http://prntscr.com/aowzez I got 31.42 but that's not one of the options. can someone explain how to do it?

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Dont multiply pi with the number. Just leave the answer in the pi form

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The formula for the circumference of a circle is C=2 pi r. Here, your radius, r, is 5 inches. Multiply r by 2, and then multiply the result by pi (leave as is, "pi," not a numerical approx. such as 3.14.

OpenStudy (mythorius):

I still get 31.41

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Multiply r by 2, and then multiply the result by pi (leave as is, "pi," NOT a numerical approx. such as 3.14.

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Circumference = 2πr Circumference = 2x5xπ Circumference = 10π

OpenStudy (mythorius):

5*2=10 10*π=31.41

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

no dont multiply they want the answer in terms of pi

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Notice how Faiq used the symbol for pi, and did not use the approx. value of pi (which is around 3.14). If you're req'd to give the "exact value," use the symbol!

OpenStudy (mythorius):

So you don't multiply π*10? its just 10π?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, that's what F. and I have been saying all along. The "exact" circumference of this circle is 10π.

OpenStudy (mythorius):

Okay, sorry, i wasn't understanding at first, but then i saw one of the choices was 10. Thank you for the help.
