this may not be the way you're supposed to be calculating it but you can see that the rate is negative from -4 to 0 for the same values that it is positive from 0 to 4. (two equivalent triangles). thus you can determine that any drop in rate is countered by an exact increase starting at exactly the bisection. so no change is observed
