This is an excerpt from Martin Luther Kings "Letters From Birmingham Jail". King is speaking of the racial injustice going on this era. He specifically talking about openly challenging racial inequalities. Trying to have the white moderates step up and stop turning a blind eye to racism. This is when he was arrested for his peaceful protests.

basically pick the scab and let it bleed. Challenging the racism will be ugly in the beginning but will eventually work itself out.
