Is 51.05 to the nearest degrees 51 degrees? Please check and explain.

OpenStudy (animallover8):

Yes, the nearest whole degree is 51°, because the next nearest degree (52), is 0.9 degrees further away.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 51 degrees because rounding 51.05 even if I did I would get 51.1 which can't be 52. So it is 51 correct what is the difference in rounding degrees?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

if the decimal part is less than 0.5 you round down if its > or = 0.5 you round up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you are basically just rounding to the nearest whole number?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

to the nearest degree means to the nearest whole number

OpenStudy (welshfella):

so 51.4 to nearest degree is 51 51.52 to neraest degree is 52

OpenStudy (triciaal):

welcome to Openstudy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So with all that being said 51.05 can not be 52 because it would be 51.1 and the 1 place is not greater than 5 so it is therefore 51 degrees correct? Thank for the welcome.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

not exactly
