Their bases are different. The base of the common log (denoted by log x) is 10, whereas the base of the natural log (denoted by ln x) is e. e has the value 2.71828......

So under what circumstances would you use either or could you just use both interchangeably to solve problems that involve logs.

Say if I wanted to find n

\[S = P(1+r)^{n}\]

I know I could use logs to do this but would ln suffice if the rules are the same.
