How are expressions rewritten in simplified form based on the mathematical operations in the expression?

OpenStudy (peachy1):

what is the expression?

OpenStudy (peachy1):

do you know what it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Peachy1 I don't see one on the paper.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Peachy1 no, all it says is "After completing this lesson, you will be able to answer the following question: How are expressions rewritten in simplified form based on the mathematical operations in the expression?"

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you any examples of actual expressions / actual homework from this section of your math course? The question you've posted can be answered, but I'd much rather answer it while looking at a real-life example (expression).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I believe this question is all about "order of operations," often abbreviated to "PEMDAS." Are you familiar with that?
