Just try to input values from the set in the equation and see which one holds true.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You are given three numbers, 0, 1 and 14. One by one, replace x in the given equation by one of these numbers. Is the resulting equation true or false? Please show your work.

OpenStudy (nautika27):

i dont get it can you please explain

OpenStudy (nautika27):

do i add each number to 30 and see do i get54 ?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Well, you're on the way there. Note that you have 24x in this equation, not just x alone. Supposing that x = 0, replace x with 0. Result: 24(0)+30=54. You now need to determine for yourself whether that equation is true or false.

OpenStudy (nautika27):

im sorry i just dont under stand

OpenStudy (nautika27):

what am i suppose to do do i add anything im sorry you dont have to help me anymore

OpenStudy (mathmale):

24(0)+30=54 is an equation. We need to judge whether or not it's a true equation. 2 + 3 = 5 is a true equation. 2 - 3 = 5 is not. 24(0)+30=54 becomes 0 + 30 = 54, because 24 times 0 is 0. Then, on the left side, you have just 30. On the right side you have 54. True or false: 30 = 54 ?
