A certain forest covers an area of 1800 km2 . Suppose that each year this area decreases by 5.25% . What will the area be after 11 years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would you do this ? @FaiqRaees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mehek14 @mayankdevnani @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

do you know how to write a general equation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it sound stupid if i said no .. ?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

nope !

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

don't worry, i'm here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol okay thank you !

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

so the equation is :- Area=A decreases by x% time =t years It is an exponential equation \[\large \bf f(x)=A(1-x)^t\]

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

where f(x) is the area after `t` years

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

just plug the values and solve it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay but what is A and x ?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

A is area x=decreases in area(in %)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would it look like f(x) = 1800 (1 - 5.25%) ^ 11

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

correct !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay okay thank you :) I will let you know how it goes. I may have more questions later, is that okay ?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

okay :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it right :) They wanted me to round and so the answer was 995 km2 I have another question but i will post it separate @mayankdevnani Is that okay ?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

okay !
