OpenStudy (booklover40):

An ocicat eats 3/5 of a pound of food daily. How many ocicats can a 19 1/2 pound bag of food feed for one week?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

divide 19 1/2 by 3/5.

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

then you'll need to divide by 7 to go from days to weeks

OpenStudy (welshfella):

what is an ocicat? Is it a wild cat, or a breed of cat?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

i'll have to google it...

OpenStudy (booklover40):

It's a made-up cat breed.

OpenStudy (booklover40):

Vocaloid, thanks. That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. The only hard part is that I have to explain why and everything, but I think it's coming to me.

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

no problem. we know the amount per cat, and we have the total amount of food. to figure out how many pounds each cat gets, we use division. that will give us the amount of cats fed in one day. but since we're spreading out the food over a week instead of a day, we need to divide by 7. hope that makes sense

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I just looked up ocicat. What a beautiful cat!!

OpenStudy (booklover40):

Yeah, I thought it was made up, but I guess not.
