OpenStudy (reemii):

The variation of a quantity (here 4400) by "some percent" can be always be expressed as "\(4400 \times \text{a number}\)". The rule is: set \(r = \text{percentage}\) (number between 0 and 1), here \(r=0.0825\). Decrease in \(8.25\%\) means : multiplying by \(1 - r\). So: 4400 * (1-r) is a decrease of 8.25%, once. 4400 * (1-r) * (1-r) is a decrease of 8.25% twice. etc.

OpenStudy (matlee):

Hello again!

OpenStudy (matlee):

wait so r=8.25?

OpenStudy (matlee):

so for 11 years the equation would be 4400(1-r)^11?

OpenStudy (reemii):

r = 0.0825. Since 8.25% is = 8.25 / 100 Yes, it's `4400(1-r)^11`

OpenStudy (matlee):

Thank you

OpenStudy (reemii):

you're welcome
