Mary can mow her family's property in six hours. When Joseph helps, they finish in two hours. How long would it take Joseph working alone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mary can mow her property in 6 hours. This means that she can mow 1/6 of the farm in an hour. She finishes in only 2 hours from working with Joseph! Remember that she does 1/6 of the farm work an hour. Thus, in 2 hours, she does 2/6=1/3 of the farm work. Thus, in 2 hours, Joseph does 2/3 of the farm work. Thus, in 1 hour, Joseph does 1/3 of the farm work. It would take Joseph 3 hours working alone.
