Final two questions!!!

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rate of change is defined as: \[[f(b)-f(a)]/(b-a)\] where b is the bigger number of your boundary, and a is the smaller number. The boundary is: \[-3\le x \le -1\] so what would be your b and what would be your a?

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

-1 : b -3: a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep! So the equation for rate of change would be: \[[f(-1)-f(-3)]/[-1-(-3)]\] Can you do it from here?

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

x=1

OpenStudy (nubeer):

\[rate of change = \frac{ f(b) -f(a)}{ b-a }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(-1)=1 f(-3)=23 f(-1)-f(-3)=1-23= -22 b=-1 a=-3 b-a=-1-(-3)=-1+3=2 The total rate of change is -22/2=-11
