Use the image below to answer the following question. What relationship do the ratios of sin x° and cos y° share? The ratios are opposites (negative 6 over 10 and 6 over 10). The ratios are reciprocals (6 over 10 and 10 over 6). The ratios are both negative (negative 10 over 6 the ratios are both identical (6 over 10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right angel is 90%

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sine = opposite / hypotenuse cosine = adjacent / hypotenuse

OpenStudy (welshfella):

can you tell me the ratio for sine x ?

OpenStudy (littlet):

yeah hold on

OpenStudy (littlet):

6/10?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

right so how about cos y?

OpenStudy (littlet):

8/10?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

No 8 is opposite angle y not adjacent to it The adjacent side is next to the angle.

OpenStudy (littlet):

So then sine would have been 8/10 right? ans Cos is 6/10

OpenStudy (welshfella):

cos y = 6/10 and sin x = 6/10 also The side is is OPPOSITE angle x but ADJACENT to angle y. The terms oppoisite and adjacent are relevant to the angle.

OpenStudy (littlet):

Oh ok so it would be D?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Yes Important to remember that the opp and adj sides are relative to the angle.

OpenStudy (littlet):

Alright. Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yw OH i meant to say the side 6 is OPPOSITE angle x and ADJACENT to angle y.

OpenStudy (littlet):

Oh alright. Have a great day!
