The table below shows the number of hours some business people in two states spend in meetings each week: State A 21 23 24 22 24 25 23 23 22 State B 24 22 20 23 23 50 20 46 21 Part A: Create a five-number summary and calculate the interquartile range for the two sets of data. (6 points)
@phi
i will do state a...u can do b....put numbers in increasing order... 21 , 22 , 22 , 23, 23 ,23 , 24, 24, 25 Q2...middle number = 23 Q1..middle number of numbers before Q2 = (22 + 22) / 2 = 44/2 = 22 Q3..middle number of numbers after Q2 = (24 + 24)/2 = 48/2 = 24 minimum...lowest number = 21 maximum...highest number = 25 interquartile range = Q3 - Q1 = 24 - 22 = 2
okay give me a second
if there is 2 middle numbers...add them and divide by 2
IQR=1.5
for state b
right?
@texaschic101
no..i am getting 14.5
oh okay then
state b Q1 = 20.5 Q2 = 23 Q3 = 35 min = 20 max = 50 IQR = 14.5
is that all we have to do?
nope never mind
Part B: Are the box plots symmetric? Justify your answer. (4 points)
what does this mean?
i think it is asking if they look alike...i say no
why?
they may have the same middle number, but their IQR's are much different
okay thank you so much!
