can some check my answers plz?
sure i can try
What is the value of a in the equation a = 2 + 3a + 8? 10 5 −5 −10 I believe it is 5
What is the solution to the equation 3x + 2(x − 9) = 8x + x − 14? −8 −1 1 8 Answer that i think fits: -1
am i solving for = a or 3a
A
ok fist you will have to get both as by it self
what i did first was subtract 3a from both 3 and 8
2 and 8*
you want A by it self so you will have to move 3a over to A
but fist to make we will work right to left so what is 8+2
@Ray_Masters
a = -5
Let's solve your equation step-by-step. a=2+3a+8 Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation. a=2+3a+8 Simplify: (Show steps) a=3a+10 Step 2: Subtract 3a from both sides. a−3a=3a+10−3a −2a=10 Step 3: Divide both sides by -2. −2a −2 = 10 −2 a=−5
please don't give direct answers
i want to understand it
btw 8+2 is 10
ok so first add 5+2 you can only add these numbers together because they don't have A and are on the right side and can be added together does that make scene
yes so far
what do you have now that you done that
i have now is this a=2+3a+8+2 8+2 10/2 =5 then 5+2 = 7 (thanks for the help i'm not that good in math)
no
that is not right
ok my bad then
ok let me help walk you though it
so you had a = 2 + 3a + 8? all you did was add the real numbers together so you added 2+8 which is 10 so now you got A=3a+10 make sure you know if the number you are adding or subtracting is a positive or a negative in this case scene the + sign is in front of the 8 it make it a positive but if it where - 8 8 would be a negative you don't need to worry about that now the point is make sure you check the sign ok now can you add 10 + 3A
The answer I gave is right, because I just did it on my quiz! Also if you need help, use this http://www.mathpapa.com/algebra-calculator.html
@Ray_Masters do you get what I'm saying
yes a little bit it's still a little fuzzy but i think i get it
ok so you have a=3a+10 can you add 3a +10
if i add that wouldn't that be like 13a or something (do i even add the a?) :/
The first step is combining like terms, so a=2+3a+8 would be: a =3a + 10 Next you need to isolate the variable, so subtract 3a from a. (any lone varible equals 1) so you would have: -2a = 10 Then you would divide both sides of the equation by -2. The answer is a = -5
Good luck with your quiz. :)
no you don't add the a you never add a number with a letter and you never add a letter with a letter but itself example you cant add 1 + a1 but you can add 1+1 you also cant add A1 +b1 but you can add A1+a1 makes scence
ohhhh got it,
ok so you have a=3a+10 we need to get a by it self so what do we do we need to bring 3a over to a but how do we do that
sorry this is taking forever) and we subtract 3a from 10?
ok i will try to make this fast
bring 3a over to a a−3a=3a+10−3a
sorry had to do something
a is like saying 1
so basically its 1-3
ok so A is 1 and you subtract that from 3
yes
when there is no number with a letter it is one I know it might be confusing but that what I always leaned
so you would get −2a=10 you still keep the a 3a the a is not 1 because it has 3 as in a you only have 1 a so instead of saying 1a you just say a
ok makes sense
ok but you still need a by itself
so how would we do that
ok to make it go fast because i know you already spent a lot of time trying to it out i will give it to you divide both side by -2 −2a/2=10/2
i was having a little war with myself over if we times or / lol
i mean -2 and lol
so you / -2 from 10 and that's how you'll get ur answer?
yes you should get a=−5
you have to do it to both sides
ok cool, thanks for your help with this even if it took forever for me to get it,
btw you have to do 10 /-2 not -2/10
ok
np you will not believe how long it took my to do these hope you have a great day :)
you to as well lol thnxs for taking the time out to help me
