Volcanism occurs at convergent/subduction boundaries and hot spots. Earthquakes can occur at any boundary (divergent, convergent, transform), but are most common and damaging at transform boundaries, then convergent boundaries. Only Icelanders live anywhere near a very active divergent boundary, but the quakes are generally very small, anyway, and don't get much press.
